The Benefits of a Music Education

Thinking about the benefits of music lessons? They reach much further than you may know! The Telegraph online magazine shows “New research suggests that regularly playing an instrument changes the shape and power of the brain and may be used in therapy to improve cognitive skills.” The Students from all ages are increasing their capacity for memorizations, with studies showing those from 3-4 years of age had lasting effects.


Today, youth are bombarded with things to do every day after school – they’re nearly overloaded. Having the responsibility of practicing an instrument 5 days a week bolsters’ students’ time management and organizational skills. Additionally, students will utilize music as an opportunity to relax and relieve stress – ultimately working their mental health to happier and healthier states!


One of the most helpful skills we can learn as musicians are social skills. We develop and strengthen the art of communication with fellow band mates by discussing instruments and topics in common. They’re learning how to grow as an individual and how to be a great team member! The sense of achievement that is gained from accomplishing different levels of skill with an instrument instill great pride and confidence in students. These characteristics carry over to things like their traditional education and have life long lasting effects!
