We’re enjoying our extra time with family and friends for the holidays… but it’s also the time of the year we’re getting bombarded with sore throats, the flu, the sniffles, the sneezes and everything in between. These cold and flu remedies will save you from the havoc that these illnesses can wreak on your voice!
Sore throats come about for various reasons and are the toughest challenge for the singer and there are a few different remedies. One of the number one causes of a sore throat, is often the most overlooked – dehydration! The winter months are drying; we’ve got to add extra fluids to our daily routine to prevent this. Common sore throats are also caused by bacterial and viral infections, sometimes laryngitis, which is frequently accompanied by yellow or green mucous. Sometimes, stress and tension can cause our sore throats. Here are a few quick remedies to keep you and your voice healthy and strong during these cold winter months.
- Lots of water!

- Living essential oils (Frankincense, Valor, Raven, Eucalyptus and Lavender).
- Throat coat tea!
- Zinc Lozenges
- Throat sprays (without antihistamines – such as Thayer’s)
